The headline is simple: "Iran cleric calls on Muslims to arm Hizbollah"
It points however to the problem of the Middle East. For those that have either missed it or remain too politically correct to state it, the current skirmish/war like every other before it is religiously motivated. A simple overview of the conflict is that Jews and Christians believe the Jews have the right to the land because God said so. Muslims believe they own the land because Allah said so. I fall with Israel on that one. The result since the beginning has been war.
For their part Hezbollah has a habit of hiding behind women and children. Which of course means that in order to hit Hezbollah, Israel has to target areas and buildings which are more than likely populated with civilians. That's what happened in Qana. Now Israel is making claims that the building didn't collapse for something like eight hours. I guess only God knows if that's true. The result however is ghastly. Civilians are dying. I have a friend who acknowledges that collateral damage of this kind has to happen. That doesn't mean I like it, in fact I don't. I wish the Arab nations would back down and acknowledge Israel's right to exist as a state. They won't.
The warmongers are hollering "go ahead and bomb 'em all". The peace-mongers are yelling for Israel to roll over and give up they are willing to sell it all for a ceasefire. I'm stuck in the middle. Israel has to defend herself. Imagine a few US soldiers captured out of one of our cities and made hostage. Imagine Islamic Militants had launched an uninitiated attack against a city in the USA. Imagine… wait, they did launch an attack! And we fought back, even causing collateral damage.
So how do you fight a bunch of cowards who hide behind women and children without also killing women and children? Israel has apparently decided that they're going to shoot through them in order to win some stability. I really hate that it has to be that way. So what can I do separated by more than 6000 miles? I can obey the scriptures to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. (Psalms 122:6)
A Song of Ascents, of David. I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD." Our feet are standing Within your gates, O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that is built As a city that is compact together; To which the tribes go up, even the tribes of the LORD — An ordinance for Israel– To give thanks to the name of the LORD. For there thrones were set for judgment, The thrones of the house of David. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May they prosper who love you. "May peace be within your walls, And prosperity within your palaces." For the sake of my brothers and my friends, I will now say, "May peace be within you." For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good. –NASB95 Psalm 122
Will there ever be peace in the middle east? No. War will continue until the end. There will be cease fires – and periods where the only people killing innocent civilians is Hezbollah and their ilk. But for now I pray that Israel will be safe, that she will have peace within her boarders and most of all that Christ will come soon and set his people free.
