I have long been fond of Hot peppers. I’ve long since outgrown the howls of pain that once accompanied the mild jalepeno pepper, and habanero’s now find their way into my home made salsa and occasionally a raw nibble. But the latest news to make my mouth water is the impending arrival of the bhut jolokia – the ghost chili.
If you love to abuse your mouth with habaneros, swallow fire, or eat glass, then a few farmers in India have a treat for you. It’s called the “ghost chili”, it makes all other hot peppers look like tall glasses of thandai, and it’s coming to America.
While a Red Savina habanero rates as high as 580,000 Scoville units, the ghost chili rates over 1,000,000. That’s like using Mace as breath freshener.
