Moody Pastor’s Conference 2008 Day One

What a night. I ran into an old friend Adam (who posted earlier) and many of you already know Joey LaJoy from the newsgroups as well as from here, I ran into Joe at the Logos booth. I was begging for free samples, but alas no such luck. (C’mon Joe you’re lettin’ me down man!) 🙂

One of the things that I appreciate so much about the Moody Pastor’s Conference is that it is really centered on Bible Teaching. Lest anyone think that pastor’s don’t need it, they do.
The worship time was phenomenal – I already mentioned it but I always look forward to hearing the sound of over a thousand men singing in worship, it was just as great as I remember.

The final song just before the message was written by the Getty’s and was titled “Speak O Lord

Speak, O Lord, as we come to You
To receive the food of Your Holy Word.
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us
All Your purposes for Your glory.

Teach us, Lord, full obedience,
Holy reverence, true humility;
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity.
Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority.
Words of pow’r that can never fail—

The Model Church: What we need to focus on at Sugar Grove?
Fiery Fellowship

Act 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
Act 2:43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
Act 2:44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
Act 2:45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
Act 2:46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
Act 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Review: Asking ourselves these questions:
1. Who Is Sugar Grove???

d. What is our motive?
2. What is needed to help the people of Sugar Grove in:
a. An absence of depth.
i. Their passion and desire for Christ.
1. Relationship.
2. Belief in the power of God.
Solution: It starts with:
3. A reality check. Deut. 10:12-13
a. Fear God.
b. Walk in His ways.
c. Love Him deeper.
d. Serve Him with heart and soul.
e. Obey His commands.
4. What are we doing to cultivate these things in our people?
a. Acts 2:42-47
i. Worship.
ii. Teaching.
iii. Evangelism.
iv. Servanthood.
v. Fellowship.
5. Do people really know what the/their purpose (why SGCC exists) is here at Sugar Grove?

To do that last week, we gave our first point.
#1 Be a church that is devoted to the instruction and teaching of God’s Word.
