PBB Updater Update Needed

in

With the changes made recently, PBB Updater will be having some problems with downloading. To correct this issue you will need to edit one line in the file: Program Files\StillTruth.com\PBB Updater\mySettings.xml.

Change From:

<site name="StillTruth.com" rootURL="http://www.stilltruth.com/sites/stilltruth.com/files/webfm/pbb/" fileName="http://www.stilltruth.com/pbblisting1.txt" />

Change To:

<site name="StillTruth.com" rootURL="http://www.stilltruth.com/sites/stilltruth.com/files/webfm/public/pbb/" fileName="http://www.stilltruth.com/pbblisting1.txt" />

I'll eventually post a new updater that will have this fix and will try to do something with the files that say they are updated but aren't. But this will allow you to get the new resources if you want them.

Update needed

What do you use to edit the mysettings.xmi?

Also, when I went to Program Files\StillTruth.com\PBB Updater\mySettings.xml there is no my settings .xmi. Where else could it be?

Thanks

Update needed

Any text editor (like Notepad) can be used to update the file.

Not sure what settings.xmi is; maybe the screen didn't read correct or I typo'd. In the directory Program Files\StillTruth.com\PBB Updater\ there is the file mySettings.xml. This would be the file to edit with Notepad (or other text editor).

If you happen to be squeamish

If you happen to be squeamish about editing the xml, I've taken the liberty of attaching an updated xml file for you. Simply download it to your installation location which should be c:\Program Files\StillTruth.com\PBB Updater\mySettings.xml

Updater stripped file contents

Hi John,

It appears Updater has left the Folders and File Titles, but has stripped the content from the files. All those in StillTruth.com folders show 0 Bytes. The Walther Library appear to have the file contents in them.

Just now I re-ran the Updater, hopting it would restore the file contents, but alas, not to be. I have posted in the General NG under your post "SNAFU."

Sure hope this can be fixed ASAP.

Thanks again for providing the tool, now if we can just get it to work.

Oh, BTW, before running Updater the first time, I had ALL the files in my PBB folder and they were ALL complete and usable. So, I know that it had to have been Updater that, for some reason, stripped the files.

updater

It appears that the updater program has been reverted to an older version of the executable (somehow). From what you have said here, it sounds like you selected to update all resources and clicked "Download." The updater then started downloading all files at once. The latest version of the updater will only download 3 files at a time.

I will try to refresh the updater when I get a chance. I hear there might be other "hacks" to limit how many downloads can occur at a time - but I do not know what they are. I have also been trying to come up with a fix for the timestamp snafu that happened earlier (which caused the resources to erroneously display that updates were available). I do not know how much longer it will be until I can compile the application again; hopefully soon.

If there is anyone else with development skills that would like to get involved, please feel free to volunteer....

try applying this update

in addition to Randy's advice you might want to make sure you've applied this update (above) as it is most likely the fix.

RE: try applying this update

I like your idea Tom, as I forgot to make this change myself yesterday after I finished installing my Libronix ND upgrade on my newly installed computer upgrade. This at least explains the "weirdness" that I saw yesterday.

Thanks, guys this worked

Thanks for your advice. I applied the change to the settings file and then re-started Updater. Of course, there was more than 900 MB to be downloaded, but it appears they did and the files are there. HOWEVER, after several hours, (I clicked Download Now) saw it was working and left it over night (DSL High Speed) and there was still 0.127 showing that had not downloaded. This AM I waited a couple more hours and it still showed this amount remaining. I closed it, opened LDLS and it appears they are all present.

Question: I notice there are PBB's for Robertsons "Word Pictures." Why are there PBB's of resources that are available from Logos?

RE: Robertson's Word Pictures

They are available as PBB's so they will be freely available for those who do not wish to purchase (they are Public Domain). Same with Philip Schaff and many others. Public Domain resources should be free - in my opinion. :)

It's a trade off

Question: I notice there are PBB's for Robertsons "Word Pictures." Why are there PBB's of resources that are available from Logos?

It's a bit of a trade off really. Earlier on most PBB creators didn't want to go there, but eventually a few resources have started to appear which are already available through Logos.
Keep in mind the differences in utility between the PBB version and the full blown logos version (key linking and a few other rather significant differences) and you'll be able to decide which you'd rather have.
