I received this question recently over Academia.edu: I wish to ask a question which we are battling in my study group: Was Jesus really asking his followers to pick up sword in defense of their faith or what was he telling them to do with the sword he asked them to buy; according to Luke 22:36. I will love to hear your own side of view about this issue.
1 Corinthians 2—Conduct With the Corinthians. Paul’s manner of ministering to the Corinthians. •His purpose: he “determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified” (v. 2). •His preaching: it was not done with clever words of men’s wisdom but with words of spiritual power that their faith would stand in the power of God not the wisdom of men. •His perception: worldly wisdom does not reveal spiritual truths—the Holy Spirit does. –Butler’s Daily Bible Reading Ruins of Ancient Corinth (Image Courtesy of Faithlife Study Bible)
