Scripture Sunday: 2 Peter 3:9

2 Peter 3—Consummation of the Faith. The end times are in view here. •Critics of the consummation: two characteristics of the critics. They are insolent (they scoff at the idea of the end time judgment), and they are ignorant (of past history in which great catastrophes from Divine judgment, such as the flood, occurred in the earth). •Character of the consummation: it will be sudden (comes as a thief); it will be surprising (another aspect of a thief coming in the night); it will be severe (conflagration of the earth and its works in a fiery destruction from the hand of God). •Conduct in view of the consummation: the holiness in the conduct (believers are to live holy and godly); the hope in the conduct (believers are to be looking for the coming of Christ in contrast to the unbelieving scoffers who deny the event). –Butler’s Daily Bible Reading
