“…let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:24–25, ESV)
Many a Christian today feels justified in not attending any church. It is not a normal, nor healthy position. Whoever it was that wrote the book of Hebrews took that attitude to task when they acknowledged that some are in the habit of neglecting (quite a strong word) meeting with other Christians. Neglect implies among other things a casual disregard of the rest of the church. 1 Peter 4:10 indicates that since every Christian has in some way been gifted – it is wrong to NOT share your gifts with the rest of the body of Christ. We must build one another up, because our own flesh, and the rest of the world, not to mention the dark forces in the world are set against us. We need help, and we need to help others to successfully journey this walk of faith.
No Christian is an island.
Father,
Unite your church – bring your people back together. Heal old divisions, and point us as Christians towards fellowship together in Christ.
Amen.
