Scripture Sunday: 1 Samuel 2:2

1 Samuel 2—Circumstances of Samuel. This chapter gives the various circumstances of Samuel at the house of the Lord. •Prayer of his mother: a great prayer of adoration and thanksgiving when bringing Samuel to Eli. •Pollution of the priesthood: it involved the wickedness of Eli’s sons; the weakness of Eli in dealing with his sons; and the warning of judgment upon Eli’s family. •Performance of Samuel: all through this chapter are comments about the excellence of Samuel’s service at the Lord’s house; there was the steadfastness of his service (he was faithful); the support for his service (his mother sent clothes every year); the superiority of his service (it was far superior to Eli’s sons); the success of his service (favor with God and man). –Butler’s Daily Bible Reading
