Additional Miscellaneous Books

in
Printer-friendly version

Now that I have a tool that does an "ok" job with CCEL resources I thought I would compile a number of other resources. I am attaching to this node these other resources, and may update it over the next couple days.

Note: Essays on the Social Gospel and History of Dogma are by Adolph Harnack.

Thanks for doing this for us. This is a great set of resources.

Thanks so much for preparing these works for PBB distribution. It is wonderful that you have taken the time to do this.

I have one question - How can I get both Finney's and Hodge's Systematic Theologies? Since they both have exactly the same name, the computer thinks I am replacing one file with a new version of the same thing, and it wants to replace whichever theology I placed in my Resources folder first with the second text.

Thanks again!

If you mimic what the PBB Updater does you would be fine. That being, the updater creates a sub-directory for Hodges and a sub-directory for Finney. You put one in each. Libronix is smart enough that it automatically scans all sub-directories.

And if you haven't come across the PBB Updater yet, check this out: http://www.stilltruth.com/2008/easiest-way-download-pbb-resources.

Thanks -

I was aware of the updater, but I've been afraid it would hose my Libronix setup. It's been easy enough to install manually.

I was working with Libronix just a few minutes ago and discovered that My Library has Hodge's in the right place. Then I checked Finney's name and found Hodge's Theology there, too.

Somehow I guess I fouled up my own manual installation. Maybe I should try the updater.

I'll try to set up sub-directories for both of them. - Thanks again!

Kestrel,

If you want to play it really safe you can do the following (which is what I did even though I developed the software):

1. Install PBB Updater
2. Run it for the first time and it will tell you about an update for the updater (which really isn't an update)
3. Immediately change the default location of the PBB books to a non-Libronix directory of your choosing (by double-clicking on the directory path listed above the list containing the app update)
4. Exit PBB Updater and restart to verify that the change stuck (if not, please contact me because that would be a bug)
5. Move any PBB book over to that directory using the structure already defined under the Software / Keeping up with the PBBs (or by just placing the books in the directory itself and they will automatically move to their proper sub-directories)
6. Restart the PBB Updater and download the application update
7. Click "Cancel" when it asks if you want to apply it
8. Now it will compare what you have to what is available and let you know what else is out there
9. In Libronix, go to Tools/Options/General and choose "Resource Paths" on the left
10. Add your custom directory to the "Resource Paths" so Libronix can detect the PBB files there

If you do this, you are guaranteed to not have the PBBs and the Libronix purchased books interfere with each other. And you can take advantage of this tool, which is sort of cool. ;)
