Have you seen Logos 4 yet? I have...
Yes, I too was one of the top secret Logos 4 testers... Logos has had a major facelift and reworking of the internal engine that has brought it into the 21st Century...
The GUI is much cleaner... There is now a unified home screen that pulls information both locally and from the internet to create an environment that just tempts you to do a study on the VERY interesting topics that it brings up...
Speaking of the internet, this version is much more internet centric than we have seen in the past... You will need internet access and go through creating an account, but you will never need to worry about losing your books, as they will always be "in the cloud" if you need them... Plus, look for iPhone support because of this new focus...
I will say this version is a work in progress, but don't let that discourage you... Libronix 3.x can co-exist with Logos 4.0, though you will need a few extra Gigs to store the new Logos 4.0 formatted resources... Not every feature in 3.x is in 4.0, but that does not mean it may not be added later... Logos is one of the most responsive companies I've ever dealt with with user comments are involved...
Lets talk a bit about requirements... I found you need at least 10-15 Gigs free on your Hard Drive, a decent processor (the slowest I use is a 1.6Mhz Atom with Hyper-Threading), and a High Speed speed internet connection to fully take advantage of features... I used this on Windows XP, Vista, and 7... Mac support is coming too! I plan to document a upgrade from Libronix 3.x at some point in the future, and will include times involved... (I want to do this on a "clean" system with a "Final" copy to be fair in my review)
For those who remember "Lesson Builder", there is a new tool that will remind you of it for Handouts, but based on the resources you own... See example Zip file...

Discounts will be made available for existing customers
Oh, my screenshots and attachments are only for illustrative purposes... The final release may or may not include resources and tools mentioned or shown...
God Bless,

The link for the free engine upgrade is here:
http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LDLS4Installer/Logos4Setup.exe
The paid upgrades are to get the new resources and such that one did not have before...
Thanks for posting that John. I'm sure lots of folks will take advantage of it today. FWIW this is the procedure I followed today when I reinstalled Win7 64bit.
I think enough people have seen this on the forums at Logos to let me repost it now.
I just upgraded from logos 3 scholar library silver to logos 4 scholar library gold few days ago and it is really good. the speed the look and feel etc. however I have some questions and may be you can help me
A. The Passage and exegetical guides open two panels at the right : information panel and tex comparison panel
Information Panel:
1. how do I add or change its content and configuration to include other dictionaries, lexicons, etc. I use other dctionaries and lexicons, not the ones confiured now
2. how do I change the size of the information pane windows
Text comparison Panel:
1. how do I select other bibles and greek texts
2. I want to select several greek texts in one tab and several english transaltions in onother tab of the same pane
B. In the ribbon I want to change:
1. The lectionaries
2. the reading list
C. Once I have open the passage or exegetical guide How do I toggle from the home page to the Passage or exegetical guide without opening another tab?
Thanks in advance!!
eflorentino,
Welcome to using L4.
A.1.
You can modify the passage and exegetical guides by clicking Guides>Make a new guide. You're dictionaries, lexicons, commentaries etc will obey the prioritization you set up in the Library. So if for instance you prefer EDNT over TDNT in the library the exegetical guide will reference EDNT first.
A. 2. Simply hover your mouse over the divider line until it changes to a double arrow, then click and drag to adjust the pane sizes.
Text comparison 1. In the text comparison window, you can see an entry box just below the verse reference. Click that box and choose one of the preselected collections, or type your own bible abbreviations in there and you'll get your custom comparison.
B.1. If you want to change the lectionaries in the blue ribbon - go back to library and prioritize the lectionaries in the order you'd rather see. In other words the highest rated lectionary is the one that will show up in the blue ribbon.
B2. If you want to change the order of reading lists, look for the "Customize" button on the bottom left of the home screen. You can drag and drop all of those items in any order.
C. If you want to toggle back and forth from the home page, click the house icon to bring the home page up, and click it again to scroll it away.
Hope this helps!
I suggest you spend some time with the videos at http://www.logos.com/videos They will answer many of your questions.
Hi folks, new to the site and forum. I appreciated the info on Logos 4 and was wondering if someone could help me with an urgent question. I'm a Logos 3 user from way back and have a fairly large library. If I just do the engine upgrade, will my Logos 3 library books have all the functionality they would have if I purchased one of the upgrade packages? Or, do the books purchased in the upgrade packages have functionality my copies of the same books would not have without the purchase?
I appreciate any kind of immediate reply. I've been traveling on furlough for the past several weeks and just realized the upgrade offers expire today! Thanks for your very helpful forum.
grace and peace,
Dennis
In a general way, the the equivalent functionally will be there, but not always in the same way, not all of it is there today, annd there is some new functionality... The problem resources are books with embeded media like video, sound, and quizes... Some work, most don't (last time I tested)... Logos is working on it...
PBBs and much user generated content not porting over to Logos 4 yet, but situation is improving... Last Engine update helped a lot, and more support in coming...
Many of the Bible resources are dropping support for certain TAGs to serach on, in favor of new metadata such as interlinear information... A better method of searching, but requires developing new skills sets... (I don't know if the new interlinears are free upgrades to exisitng resourses.)
Most of the new books in the upgrade collections have Libronix 3 versions you can use if you are not ready to move to 4 now, but want the discount to get the new books...
If you use Logos at least once a week, I say get the upgrade collection now to save money, even if you don't start using Logos 4 right away... If you only use it once and a while, the free engine update might be better for now...
Thanks for the helpful advice. I went ahead and opted for the minimal Bible Study upgrade. I already had a lot of the resources in the other upgrades, and wasn't inclined to shell out a lot more for what was offered, even though the discounts were tempting. The Bible Study upgrade will get me a few extra useful ministry and apologetics resources plus I'll get the material on a DVD which will save me the download time since my connection isn't that good here.
I appreciate your help and the wealth of resources available on the site.
grace and peace,
Dennis
Thank you very much Tcblack!!...very helpful...
