E.W. Hengstenberg: Christology of the Old Testament, Vol. I

Printer-friendly version

I have finished making a Libronix PBB resource for Volume I of E.W. Hengstenberg's Christology of the Old Testament. You can download it below.

Hengstenberg was an Orthodox German Lutheran theologian of the mid 1800's. There is a brief bio entry on Hengstenberg at wikipedia. You can read it here: Hengstenberg bio.

I have long admired Christology. The Reformed biblical theologies in the tradition of Geerhardus Vos, Herman Ridderbos and others followed after it. He wrote a 3-volume commentary on the Psalms (which I believe Logos has up for community pricing) and a much-heralded commentary on Revelation.

This volume contains the Messianic predictions in the Pentateuch, 2 Samuel, Song of Solomon, and the prophets Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah and Micah.

A word of caution: Christology is a dense work, which led Spurgeon himself to comment on how hard it is to read. But if you are willing to do the work, there is a wealth of material here.

I have Volume II completely scanned and mostly edited. I hope to have it done sometime in October. Volumes III and IV will follow at a slower pace because I have to scan those volumes in large part.
