At some point, you will likely want to replace your PC. Or maybe you have a 2nd system on a laptop for class (like me ;). You could just install Logos 4 on the new system and redownload your multi-gigabyte collection, then spend hours more to index. Or you could just copy your collection from the original location, and save yourself time and any download limits you may have. This tutorial covers the second option...
If you plan to keep the original system, making sure it is up to date before you start. You can do this by typing "Update Now" in the command box, then waiting at least 5 minutes to see if the system starts updating... If it does, let it download, install, index, or whatever else it needs to do before you continue...
Find an external USB hard drive with enough space to hold your collection AND indexes. Do not be surprised to find out your indexes double the size of your collection. I don't recommend flash drives because, even if you can find one large enough, they then to be much slower...
Close Logos if you have it running...
Logos4 hides its files in different locations depending on the OS you are using. If you are using XP copy the files from C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4. If you are using Vista or Windows 7 copy the files from C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Logos4.
(USERNAME is whatever OS user account you use when you use Logos.)
Copying the files will probably take a few minutes... This is a good time to get a cup of coffee going...
Shutdown the Original PC for now, then move the USB drive to the new system, and copy the files to the right location base on the OS you use on the new system. (Same paths as above.)
This will take a few more minutes. Time to drink the coffee.
Almost done. Now download the latest installer from Logos, run it, and do a Repair installation when the option comes up. (In a pinch, you can run the installer from your ...\Logos4\Install\Installers\Logos4.msi file, but you should download and run the latest version when you can.) Go ahead and run Logos on the new system, logging into your account, and run Update Now again. Don't panic if it starts indexing, this usually only takes 10 minutes or so.
Get a second cup a coffee, and get ready to study. ;) Oh, I had to Customize the home page, then change it back for graphics to show up... Not sure why, but it worked...
