Ephesians 4:4-6 The Foundation of Church Unity

Originally preached on 6/9/2013 Also Read: Ephesians 1; Colossians 1:13-23 (Pray through Eph. 1:16-23, 3:14-21) In a day in which battle lines are always drawn; I would have you examine unity with me. But not unity at the expense of truth. I would have you examine the foundation of Unity as God defines it. I would like you to turn this morning to Ephesians 4:4-6 as our text as we examine the only right and proper foundation of the unity of the Christian Church. We need a little context to make it flow; and time does not permit us to go into full depth; but we can grasp a brief overview of Ephesians so far. In chapter one Paul opens the letter with a strong emphasis on God’s sovereignty in salvation, the glory of blessings given to us as God chose us, and the presence of the Holy Spirit as a sign and seal of our salvation; all capped off with an amazing prayer  (1:16-23) of gratitude, and a plea that we will understand the riches of God’s glory showered upon us through and by and for the glory of Christ.) Luke 1:1-4 Foundation of the Faith – So That You May Know

This morning we are beginning a fresh study in the Gospel of Luke.  It has long been my desire to study our Lord Jesus’ life and only now has God’s leading taken me in this direction, and I am excited.  I’ve been steeping myself increasingly in the third gospel with pleasure, allowing it’s words and accounts to wash over me in its ebb and flow.  This morning I invite you into a fantastic faith building journey through the gospel of Luke. Begin at the Beginning Let’s begin with the first four verses of Luke, which in some respects is nothing more than an introduction but it also serves as an important statement of purpose. Imagine receiving a scroll of some considerable length, fortunately it’s all rolled up so you begin by unraveling the first few inches just to see what’s in it.  In fact you would be hoping that you’ll be able to figure it out in the first few inches or else it becomes a massive undertaking to unroll and re-roll the scroll to peruse the whole thing just to figure out what it was about.
