Sheep Go to Heaven

So, with the waves that have been crashing against my boat this week, these lyrics have been bugging me the entire time (lyrics at bottom). “Sheep go to heaven and goats go to hell” at first gave some comfort – but not for long. Then the thoughts start striking that you don’t want that goat to go there; they aren’t usually that bad of a person – they must only be having a bad time. So instead, I should be praying that God can reach their heart and teach them from this circumstance.

But, oh the thoughts that go thru your head when “Satan” is attacking you. You are reminded so quickly of just how human and sinful you really are. Why can’t we just all forget about “someone has to pay” and all the hatred and evil that this mentality causes to everyone? Aren’t we all human with all of us our own frailties? Is there anyone who is perfect? And if so, let that person cast the stone; I know I am not that person.

Thankfully, the Creator is not like us. At the end, we will all be judged according to our works. But thankfully, many will also be judged by the most important work – believing and trusting in the works of Jesus (the Creator) for our salvation. And then our own evil, sinful works will be forgiven and forgotten. But for those that don’t, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Notice the element of free will? The Creator is not condemning us to hell; our own actions do that.)

Isn’t it wonderful that the Creator is love? That he is all about forgiveness and love, if only we will trust him? For some, the continous reminder of our sins is needed in order to know how truly wonderful the Creator is; for others, the love of the Creator is all that is necessary to know. Who are we to judge those that are comfortable in the Creator’s promise that our sins will not be remembered?

Isn’t “The Cosmic Squish” actually the best mindset for a believer to live in – the most honoring of the Creator’s promise? Which is not to say that the other viewpoints are invalid. But why do we talk down about viewpoints which are not our own?

If you ask me, those people that are able to focus on the love of the Creator and not see the sin anymore are in a much better place than the rest of us. They are much further down the narrow path than those who cannot see that way. I have seen from this week’s experience that I am not yet that mature; for I have thought sinful thoughts this week about other people.

“Sheep Go to Heaven” by Cake
I’m not feeling alright today,
I’m not feeling that great,
I’m not catching on fire today,
Love has started to fade,

I’m not going to smile today,
I’m not gonna laugh,
You’re out living it up today,
I’ve got dues to pay,

When the grave digger puts on the foreceps,
The stonemason does all the work,
The barber can give you a haircut,
The carpenter can take you out to lunch,

Now, I just want to play on my panpipes,
I just want to drink me some wine,
As soon as you’re born, you start dying,
So you might as well have a good time,

Sheep go to Heaven,
Goats go to Hell,
Sheep go to Heaven,
Goats go to Hell,

I don’t wanna go to Sunset Strip,
I don’t wanna feel the emptyness,
Old marquees with stupid band names,
I don’t wanna go to Sunset Strip
