A Prayer Based on Exodus 20:1-3

“Then God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before Me.” (Exodus 20:1–3, NASB95)

You have shown us Lord, that you are the Eternal, all powerful God of salvation. You took Israel from Egyptian slavery even as you take us out of slavery to our own sinful nature. You delivered Israel through the sea, and deliver us through the waters of baptism. You guided Israel to the mountain and gave them the tabernacle, and you have given your Holy Spirit to dwell inside of us and guide us. There is no one like you, and none who can stand beside you. You are God alone and we worship you for who you are.
We worship you Lord our God for delivering us from sin and death – taking us out of the kingdom of darkness and releasing us into the kingdom of your dear Son. We confess that we need you. We love you with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength.
Lord we first lift up our own lives. We struggle with weakness and sin, and ask for your cleansing forgiveness. Where we have allowed this world and its temptations to master us we surrender that ground to you, so that you will be master of our lives. For those we know who are struggling with sin, we lift them up beside us and pray that you will strengthen them and help them to discover your victory. Free us all Lord Jesus from our slavery and bondage. We confess that you are mighty to save and we pray that you will show your mighty power on our behalf. Meet us Father in our time of need with these requests ___________.
Now please God, help us to live in the mercy that Jesus offers. Help us, help ME to extend that same gracious love and mercy to those around us. Most of all, help us to place you always in first place throughout the rest of this day.
