We sing the song: “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is…” peace, love, comfort, power. But do we live that way?
We must learn at each point in our lives, and specifically as we look to God for what is NEXT for His Church to share our personal and corporate dependence upon God’s Spirit working within us. It is personal because our own dependence must be upon God and not ourselves. But as we ourselves learn to live vigorously in obedience to, and in step with God’s Spirit, our life together will also be in step with His Spirit. As Jesus spoke about salvation he said, that the Spirit, not our flesh gives life. This is true in other areas of our life as well, We are dependent upon God’s Spirit for peace, love, comfort, and power.
““It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.” (John 6:63, NASB95)
On This Sunday as you prepare to worship the Lord in song, resolve to worship him in Spirit and in truth. Hear his word intentionally. Ensure that your own inner life is prepared and open to the presence of God who already dwells – in his Spirit – in every believer. Let this then be our prayer.
Spirit of the Living God who dwells in every believer, help me to live and worship today in obedience with you. Show me your glory, reveal hidden sin, and bring cleansing. Show me your mercy, open my eyes to your presence. And show me – show your church what is next for us. How must we change, what path must we walk to be the church of Jesus Christ where you have placed us. Direct us Holy Spirit of God, that we might walk as a church in the path that you have set for us.
Amen.
