Articles: Surrender Like a Boy Scout

I am utterly unsurprised at the gutless surrender lead by Robert Gates. But I am astonishingly disappointed. I’ll be posting more in the near future following some meetings I have coming up. But for now I’m simply disappointed in the abandonment of Boy Scout values by the boy Scouts of America. Not terribly long ago, the BSA won the battle – all the way up to the Supreme Court – to set their own guidelines to forbid gays in the scouts.  Then they started playing Neville Chamberlain by giving away the hard-won victory. Appeasement is the pathway to destruction, not salvation. Behold the end of the Boy Scouts. Over at The American Thinker, Selwyn Duke aptly surmised the origin of the defection from moral integrity: None of this would be happening if the BSA’s leadership, reflecting moderns in general, weren’t lacking in virtue themselves and hadn’t descended into vice-enabling relativism. Even years ago I fully expected their surrender because I understood that, as Lewis also said, you cannot “make men without chests and expect from them virtue and enterprise.” Robert Gates and most of the rest of the BSA leadership are men without chests; they have no heart for the fight because they have no principles, and they have no principles because they […]

Should I stay or should I go? What I’m thinking about my involvement with the Boy Scouts of America.

This is a repost of a 2013 entry on my original site before the crash, so it might look familiar. I’m pulling it out again because The Boy Scouts are about to finish the slide they started. Also Read: Philippians 1:1-30; 1 Corinthians 5:9-13 The other day I had the opportunity to sit down with a fellow believer who is involved in Boy Scouts as a leader. I also serve as an assistant Boy Scout leader. Since the passing of the newest capitulation to the gay lobby, the boy Scouts of America are now accepting openly gay scouts; but denying openly gay leaders access. This other leader asked me about my resolve to stay active in the Boy Scouts, because he was wrestling with the need to withdraw. I am hearing of Churches all over the country who once sponsored the scouts but are dropping their sponsorships and kicking the scouts out – should he, and should I follow suit? Is it right that I, and my son continue to take part in an organization that has, with the proverbial stroke of a pen, redefined what it means to be “morally straight”? My friend asked, “Tom, In terms of Boy Scouts I am struggling with this and would love your […]

The Destruction of Christian Rights

The Lie Let us get something straight about racism: it is a lie. Racism is based upon Darwinistic Evolution and the consequent belief that different ‘races’ of people descended from monkey’s or apes, and perhaps some of them are more fit than others. It is a disgusting concept when held up to the light of scripture. Acts 17:26 teaches that every person is descended from one man: Adam. Moreover the Bible teaches that mankind is made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27). Therefore to hate another human being (Matthew 5:21-22) is an assault ultimately on the image of God. For this reason, racism is sinful. That said, Christians should be watching the Donald Sterling story with open eyes. The case, largely being played out in the court of public opinion, is demonstrating and setting a very serious precedent for Christians. Just exactly what is at stake and what am I driving at? Take a look at this: Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling does not have the authority to stop a $2 billion sale of his team because he has been determined to be mentally unfit to make decisions related to the family trust… via USAToday. Perhaps I’m jumping to conclusions, but I believe we are watching the destruction of Christian rights from […]
